Calf Rearer (Part Time) Coombe Farming

Job Overview

We are a large, diversified rural business in South Somerset with Organic farming at our core, milking 900 cows across 3 herds and rearing our own replacements on 2700 acres.

A vacancy has arisen at one of our farms for a part-time Calf Rearer reporting directly to the Herd Manager. The post holder will be a vital member of a small team responsible for the management of our calves working to the highest standards of animal welfare.

Job Duties Include:

• AM and PM calf feeding/watering, working to a set protocol
• Daily bedding up and cleaning out of the calf pens with a skid steer
• Keeping the diary up to date with new entries and treatments
• Assisting with routine health events and weighing
• Overall monitoring of calves
• General farm duties as required

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

• Experience of working with livestock is preferred although training can be given to the right candidate
• Reliable and flexible team player with the right attitude to fit in with the existing team
• Someone who is self-motivated, organised and with a good attention to detail to maintain our high standards and comply with Health and Safety regulations
• Full valid UK driving licence or ability to reliably commute due to the rural location

• Pay commensurate with previous experience
• A part-time position working on a shift basis which will include weekend working, we envision this to be approximately 20 hours per week
• The opportunity for more hours/overtime if required, working across the wider dairy
• Flexibility – for the right candidate this role can be designed to enable a shift pattern that works for both yourself and the calves
• 31 days holiday pro-rata (including bank holidays). This will be calculated according to the number of days/hours worked
• Enrolment onto our company pension scheme on completion of 3 months
