Job Overview

We are a large, diversified rural business in South Somerset with Organic farming at our core, milking 900 cows across 3 herds and rear our own replacements on 2700 acres.

A vacancy has arisen at one of our farms for a Dairy Farm Assistant reporting directly to the Herd Manager. The post holder will be a vital member of a small team responsible for the management of a 360-cow milking herd and young stock, working to the highest standards of animal welfare. Milking takes place twice daily, through a 28/28 herringbone parlour.

A good understanding of a grazing-based system would be beneficial, and PACE Keenan feeding would be an advantage.

Job Duties Include:

  • Assist with care of the herd on a day-to-day basis
  • Upkeep of the milking parlour and machinery, always maintaining a hygienic work area
  • Assist with the daily milking
  • Assist with yard work
  • Assist with feeding the milking herd
  • Assist with other farm duties as required
  • Ensuring Health & Safety requirements are met and comply with our high standards

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

  • An enthusiastic candidate with some previous experience who has a passion for the industry
  • Experience in driving agricultural machines (telehandler/scraper tractor)
  • Reliable and flexible team player with the right attitude to fit in with the existing team
  • Someone who is self-motivated, organised and with a good attention to detail to maintain our high standards and comply with Health and Safety regulations
  • Full valid UK driving licence

  • A full-time position working on a shift basis which includes weekend working, typically this will equate to a 5.5 day week average.
