Head Herdsperson Coombe Farming

Job Overview

We are a specialist mixed organic farm based in the South West, who farm almost 900 dairy cows on multiple dairies and rear all own replacements based over 2,500 acres.

A fantastic opportunity has become available for a Head Herdsperson reporting directly to the Farming Manager. You will be responsible for looking after a 300-cow milking herd, as well as playing a key part in a team of up to 4 employees plus relief workers.

Key Responsibilities:

You Will…….

  • Be responsible for milking, herd health and record keeping.
  • Ensure the herd stays compliant in meeting the organic and farm assurance standards.
  • Ensure Health & Safety requirements are met.
  • Maintain high standards for the farm.
  • Be competent in AI, foot trimming and operating farm vehicles (including telehandler).
  • Be computer literate with a sound knowledge of herd computer-based herd records. Knowledge of Uniform Agri would be an advantage.
  • Keen eye for grassland management.

Ideal Person Skills & Qualifications:

You will have/be……

  • Herd management (required)
  • AI & Foot Trimming (required)
  • PACE Keenan Feeding (preferred – but not essential)
  • Uniform Agri Software (preferred – but not essential)
  • Grazing-based System (preferred – but not essential)
  • Hold a full valid UK driving licence.
  • Authorisation to work in the United Kingdom

In return the AH Warren Trust can offer you:

  • A permanent full time position, working 55-60 hours per week
  • £35,000 basic salary depending on experience
  • An attractive 3-bedroom house, with double garage, located on farm in a village with a variety of clubs, pre-school, primary school, village hall, pub and recreation ground – which is situated in the beautiful countryside. Nearest town, shops and other amenities – 4 miles
  • Accommodation cost of £250 per annum
  • 31 days holiday pro-rata (including bank holidays)
  • Enrolment onto our company pension scheme on completion of 3 months
