Job Overview
Set in the quiet and picturesque Somerset countryside, the newly renovated Downclose Stables offers a 5* livery as well as an indoor and outdoor arena and provides premium facilities and security.
A vacancy has arisen for a part time Stable Assistant reporting directly to the Stable Manager. The post holder will be a vital member of a small team responsible for the care of our horses, working to the highest standards of animal welfare.
This is a part-time role working on a Friday and Sunday – 8.00am to 4.30pm (minus one-hour unpaid break) = 7.5 hours per day, 15 hours per week. Occasional extra hours and evening work will be required, to assist with holiday cover/sickness. We would also happily take applications from those who may wish to be Self-Employed.
We are committed to safeguarding and the successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
The role is based in the village of North Perrott and would be commutable from Crewkerne (3 miles), Yeovil (8 miles), Chard (11 miles) or surrounding areas.
The ideal candidate will:
- Provide a high level of care to the horses and high level of service to our clients and guests.
- Carry out all aspects of yard work duties to a high standard, including, feeding, watering, mucking out, bedding down, sweeping, rugging up, turning out, bringing in, grooming, tacking up and un-tacking, bathing, and tack cleaning.
- Keep all areas, horses, and equipment clean, tidy, and presentable at all times.
Riding is not essential, however is available for the right candidate.
Job Skills & Qualifications:
- An enthusiastic candidate with practical equine experience and a passion for working with horses.
- The ideal candidate will have a level 3 or above equine vocational qualification.
- The ideal candidate will hold a First Aid qualification.
- The ability to communicate effectively is essential for this role along with at least one year’s relevant practical experience within the Equine industry.
- Reliable and flexible team player with the right attitude to fit in with the existing small team.
- Someone who is self-motivated, organised and with a good attention to detail to maintain our high standards and comply with Health and Safety regulations.
- Must be able to clip, bandage, and provide basic horse first aid to a high standard.
- Enthusiastic and motivated person.
- Must be smart, tidy, and efficient.
- Full valid UK driving licence.
